Chiaki Kamikawa Contemporary Art Gallery presents two-person exhibition, entitled “Polychrome” with Rodica Lomnasan and Nina Sumarac. The exhibition opened on 16th May and will run until 30th May. This exhibition focuses on the use of colour with different techniques and materials by two artists. Various colours are explored by Nina with drawings on paper, while Rodica expresses her passion for colour in printmaking.

Romanian artist Rodica Lomnasan’s primal means of expression is printmaking. In this exhibition she presents colour etchings combined with aquatint technique. Rodica’s semi-abstract works are influenced by Mediterranean climate and mythology with the twist of humour. The choices of colours are soft, subtle and calm that enhances her nostalgic atmosphere of her works. Printmaking is a time-consuming technique and it requires several stages of preparation before printing. The result of colour etchings vary from print to print therefore each work is a unique piece of art.
Serbian artist Nina Sumarac portrays people with vivid colours. In her series “Uninterrupted stare,” Nina merges her subconscious visions with reality, and captures people in characteristic compositions. Most portraits describe people from their nose to knees. Model’s eyes are either cut from the composition, covered by glasses, or replaced by the head of bird-like creatures. We are usually drawn to look at the eyes of the picture, but in Nina’s pictures, our eyes are induced to see other details such as patterns of clothing, surreal objects and metamorphosis of the body.
