“Once in a land called destruction lived a woman.
She had build her house from the crumbles of this land.
And there she lived on the top of the hill far away, faraway and alone.
She lived in her purple house wearing her blue-green dress.
She fed on poppy flowers. The woman knitted her whole life an orange scarf, that had become a blanket that covered this damaged Land.
And if you were to step on it, the woman would dissolved and in 1000 piece her soul would be transformed. "

Chiaki Kamikawa Contemporary Art, Paphos
From 2012 and in different stages of developing process, Uninterrupted Stare series were presented, as 5 solo exhibitions in Cyprus, Switzerland, Serbia and France. Some of these works have been selected and presented at in different international competitions and exhibitions, where one of them has received The First Prize and another a Prestige Mention of the Jury. Works from this series have become part of the permanent collection of Historical Archive Pancevo in Serbia, Osten World Gallery of Drawing, Skoplje in Macedonia and at the State Gallery of Contemporary Art in Cyprus.
“ Serbian artist Nina Sumarac portrays people with vivid colours. In her series “Uninterrupted stare,” Nina merges her subconscious visions with reality, and captures people in characteristic compositions. Most portraits describe people from their nose to knees. Model’s eyes are either cut from the composition, covered by glasses, or replaced by the head of bird-like creatures. We are usually drawn to look at the eyes of the picture, but in Nina’s pictures, our eyes are induced to see other details such as patterns of clothing, surreal objects and metamorphosis of the body.”
Chiaki Kamikawa MA
“UNINTERRUPTED STARE is the most desirable voyeuristic basic principle, and that is the name that Nina Sumarac Jablonsky gave to her cycle of drawings which she has been ‘hewing, hacking, and carving” like a grand study for some future artistic leap. And so this very cycle of drawings is in itself a leap in relation to Nina’s previous artistic pursuits in her expression and creative foundation.
When you stand in front of these drawings, you feel like an explorer of a time that has leaked out and is being held captive in some dusty Kafkanian archive or left as a legacy from the transition process of a post-Soviet, Middle and Eastern Europe.
Yet they look as if they were just recently taken out of an attic trunk from some Musil's people; as if they were buried therein, let’s say 1913, only to be frozen in the same state before the epoch of the First World War. Or like a folder of some future European Smithsonian who will testify against the shock, awe, astonishment, and immobility of one moment to go on with its civilizational step forward. And in front of us, in its archaeological deposits which the artist layers so well, we observe a great sadness and hopelessness of their nullified lives.
Like every other revolutionary commotion, that process is recorded moment by moment, in its segmented and revelatory, surreal maze.
The artist concocts for us this museum of lost opportunities and unimagined dreams like exceptional psychosocial studies, evoking a brilliant observance and an excellent technique that, with its decisive and inevitable strokes, is close to expressionistic wood and linocut. Undisturbed in the comfort of her voyeuristic position, she testifies to the wide variety of emotional conditions of her characters, colouring them in almost literary tones. Moving with conceptual deliberation and using a strong expressionistic illustration, the artist attires her entire work with the surreal atmosphere of all her psychological and philosophical standpoints.
And, perhaps, her Stareless characters stare back at us, mysteriously and surrealistically, in their own quiet voyeurism, as if they are preparing their own testimonials about us ‘here’, placing us in their folder of hopelessness?
It is not too early to anticipate the new exhibition of Nina Sumarac Jablonsky; this kind of fresh, unpretentious strength is out of the ordinary.”

Neometano Zurenje. Demoni
Možda ti njeni Stareless likovi, misteriozno i nadrealno, onoliko koliko su to oni zaista, posmatraju 'otud' nas, komotno, natenane, voajerski, i spremaju neko svoje svedočenje o nama 'ovde', trpajući nas u svoj folder beznadja?
Vec se treba radovati novoj izložbi Nine Šumarac Jablonski, ovakva svežina, nepretencioznost i snaga nesvakidašnji su!

work Inspired by the painting from 16th century
Virgin Agapitiki (Love) and Virgin Misitiki (Sorrow).
..Sleep soft , my darling, my trouble and treasure;
Sleep warm and soft in the arms of your mother,
Dreaming of pretty things, dreaming of pleasure…
Sing-Song by Christina Rossetti, 1893
Rad Svojerodica (Holy Mother of Self) pripada kolekciji SINERGIJE koja obradjuje ponovo temu identita. Slikanje Portreta I njegove reflekcije. filozofiranje o suocavanju I utimljavanju sa svojom sopstvenom opozicijom. U prihvacanju svoje pozitive I negative I svega sto je bilo, jeste bice Bice postaje mocno. Ono prosperira kroz svoju unikatnost a neosudjuje je.
Ja+aJ (I)
(“Virgin Agapitiki (Love) and Virgin Misitiki (Sorrow)”) (Byzantijski Muzej u Nikoziji), a posmatranu kroz prizmu mog sopstvenog iskustva, unutrasnjih borbi I razmisljanja o neuspelom ostvarenju materinstva.
I vise ljudskom.
Moja verzija ilistruje moju viziju.

Young Weather vs. The Last Beast
painting, collage, 42x52cm, 2012
"Nina Sumarac’s work is often a cross between Fantastic art and Neo-surrealism. She skillfully combines illustrative and photographic elements into her paintings, in order to explore the imagination, the bizarre and the grotesque, depicting myths and legends. At the same time exploring the complex and compound symbolic imagery of subconscious visions interlaced with ordinary materialistic objects.
In her work called "Young Weather vs The Last Beast", Sumarac uses symbolism to portray imminent disaster, calamity, and tragedy with an extraordinary breadth of prophetic conception. She personifies these adversities in the form of an ogre representing a horde of people - which according to popular belief - a crowd is also considered as something odd, something pathological and something monstrous. Staring at one direction, they seem to have heightened suggestibility. There is that sense of totalitarianism, especially since the crowd is patterned in such a way that it can gain direct power at any moment by acting collectively.
The ogre seems to represent “the shadow archetype”, which is of suppressed thoughts, weaknesses, needs, impulses and restrictions. This archetype, as described by Carl Jung, is the darker side of the psyche, representing chaos, disorder, and the unknown. As such, the type of irrationality attributed to this ogre is mostly apprehension. Faced by an emergency situation, such as any kind of natural disasters, he is expected to suddenly behave like a selfish animal, trampling others in the scramble to escape. The motifs associated with him, the twin horns, the loose screw, the dark apocalyptic sky above his head, the wounded bird on his shirt, and the clenched fist tattooed on his arm, depict the current qualms of the world we live in. As such, the work investigates, or rather ridicules, the precarious balance and the possibility of collapsing of old ideologies and belief systems; in Richard J. Hooper’s exact word, “an apocalyptic drama -- destruction, the coming of a messiah, the judgment of humanity, and the ushering in of a new world."
